About Mas le Chêne...

Picture your perfect villa in Provence, and there’s a good chance it will look like Mas le Chêne.

Built in warm stone, with shuttered windows, and surrounded by olive groves, vineyards and orchards, it’s the perfect place for a group of family or friends to spend a relaxing holiday.

Imagine sunny days around the pool, or outside of the main Summer season, relaxing in the wood-fired Scandinavian hot tub, before a simple lunch of local bread, cheese and wine on one of the many sunny terraces, or shady spot to be found dotted around the property.

The charming village of Cotignac is just 3km away, and has a good choice of restaurants, cafes and bars. There’s also a butcher, baker, fishmonger and a great market - everything you need to live like a local.

The property ...

Mas le Chêne sleeps up to 8 people in three en-suite bedrooms, one of which is in the annexe guest house.

The annexe and the Mas are linked by a stunning garden room with comfy armchairs, a fireplace, and two walls of windows, so that the views across the vineyards and gardens can be enjoyed all year round. Two of the bedrooms have double beds, one has an en suite shower room, the other an en suite bathroom. The third bedroom also features an ensuite bathroom and four single beds, so will particularly appeal to children, or two of the beds can be pushed together to form a double, making this a good family room.

The villa is decorated throughout in neutral tones, making for a relaxed ambience, no more so than in the open plan living area, with soft sofas, an elegant dining table and cosy wood-burning stove. The well-equipped kitchen has everything you need to cook up a delicious meal, and there's even a summer kitchen, equipped with a sink, fridge and barbecue oven with a hatch overlooking a terrace between the house and the pool. It's the perfect shaded spot to eat on warm summer evenings.

After dinner take a stroll around the extensive grounds, enjoy a game of petanque, find a quiet spot to read a book, or chat with friends - there is plenty of space for everyone to spread out.

About the area ...

With the beautiful and unspoilt village of Cotignac, known locally as Petit St Tropez, just a few minutes drive away, you'll find plenty to do without spending hours in the car.

The village has a typical provencal market on Tuesday mornings, and is a great place to pick up local produce - fresh fruit and veg, olives, honey, oil, truffles and cured meats - as well as lavender, ceramics and other souvenirs. Why not pick up everything you need for a picnic and head out for a walk?

Just 7km from Cotignac is the pretty village of Sillans la Cascade. From here it's a lovely walk on forest paths to the waterfall. Further afield there's windsurfing and sailing on Lac Sainte-Croix, rafting, canoeing and climbing in the Gorge du Verdun, and you'll then be able to head back to Mas le Chêne in time to cool off in the pool, perhaps before a gentle game of boules and a glass of local wine.

The pool is completely surrounded by an ironwork fence for safety, and an ironwork pergola to provide much-needed shade down by the pool.

Mas le Chêne can be reached easily in just over an hour from the airports at Marseille, Toulon or Nice. It’s a great base for exploring the villages of Provence, and the vineyards that surround them - don’t forget to taste the wine!

Further south there are the chic resorts of Saint-Tropez, Grimaud and Frejus. If you can stand the crowds, they are worth a day trip! Marseilles is less busy and certainly worth a visit - its role as a port and its proximity to Africa gives the city an international feel, particularly in the Panier shopping quarter. If you are there in June, try to get to the Fete du Panier - a lively two-day celebration of the city’s cultural diversity.

What next?

If a week or two at Mas Le Chene sounds like your idea of the perfect holiday, check our calendar for available weeks. If you need a little time, we can hold the dates for 24 hours. But don't wait any longer  - this is always a very popular choice for OVO Network guests.

Why Cotignac?

The beautiful medieval town of Cotignac has long been a favourite with tourists.

Dominated by a limestone cliff studded with troglodyte caves, and surrounded by lavender fields and vineyards, you would be hard pushed to imagine a more typical Provencal destination.

With fabulous hiking and biking, wonderful markets, and summer open air theatre, there’s plenty to do, or relax and enjoy the wonderful food and prestigious wines of the area.

The OVO Network Review

“We just LOVE the Mas le Chene”

The three bedroom, three bathroom Mas le Chene property for 8 (max 8 adults) is spread over 192m2 of floor space. The original two bulidings are now linked by a wonderful garden room.

The property is constantly evolving as the owners improve the already beautiful interior and exterior spaces every year.

The property is set within its own vineyard, the accent really is on outdoor living! There are many different spaces out of doors, lots of different seating areas. Al fresco dining is always a pleasure, and entirely possible from May through until the end of October given the warm climate.

There is a walled petanque court so that guests can enjoy stay long tournaments, the fenced in (for security reasons) pool area is superb! We especially like setting up an outdoor office overlooking the vines, beneath the shade of the oak tree. The Scandinavian-style hot tub is perfect when the pool is not heated.

The living room and the bedrooms are comfortable, all bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms with wc's, children will really enjoy the dorm style bedroom in the only part of the building to be on the first floor. The air conditioning in the bedrooms is a welcome plus, as is the summer kitchen overlooking the garden between the house and the pool.

There are plenty of shady spots to be had out of doors, and plenty of parasols and pergolas to sit beneath.

This property is ideal for two families , groups of friends, or even couples, wanting to escape to a tranquil space in the countryside within a short drive of the beautiful town of Cotignac, which organises many activities and events across the year. There are many superb vineyards around the immediate area with our particular favourites being Mirabeau en Provence, and Carpe Diem.

From the owner

Love at first site

Over the years, friends often made mention of “living the good life in Provence” So, after five years, I decided to go and discover some of the local villages for myself to see what made this region so memorable.

It was during this period I discovered the charming and picturesque village of Cotignac which instantly reminded me of family holidays spent in an identical village in the wine growing region of Languedoc. Having shortlisted some stone character properties to view whilst in the vicinity of the golden triangle I was led to Mas le Chene where the property proved to be a “picture postcard”…quaint, idylic, picturesque and tranquil…it was love at first site.

Nestled amongst oak trees and vineyards the secluded location is what drew me to the property as it was literally “a hidden gem” offering an abundance of charm, peace and serenity. Once through the entrance, it is like entering a calming oasis proving to be the perfect place to relax whilst enjoying the natural beauty of Provence with that of a lively village of Cotignac just a stonethrow away.

Some weeks later I became committed to buying Mas le Chene and in the months that followed I became the proud home owner of the Mas and quite frankly have not regretted my impulse to buy something so unique. Like all home owners I want to put my stamp on the property but want to embrace the architectural stone creation made by the previous owners which created the footprint and layout - perfect for family, friends and rental guest enjoyment.

The sheer pleasure and fascination that comes from sitting around the table out on the terraces with friends and family taking-in the views “as far as you can see” over the properties very own vineyards ensures endless conversations. I am glad I am able to share this experience with all my house guests who come to stay at the Mas.

Should it get too hot, the swimming pool always beckons being just a few steps away to jump in and cool-off before sitting on the loungers with another glass of rosé If feeling competitive there's always a game of boules (pétanque) on the court which is flanked by century old oak trees enabling guests to sit under seeking shade whilst looking out over the vineyards surounding the property.

The local craft and farmers markets continue to add good reason to venture into the lively and friendly village of Cotignac where everybody is made to feel welcome no matter where you come from and what I especially like is your always making new friends no matter where you go. The icing on the cake is that the village of Cotignac is surounded by vineyards and the Provence Verte is highly regarded as a fine wine producting region so your never be short of options should you wish to taste vintage local wines.

The region of Provence is spoilt by an abundance of spectacular scenery, culture and glamour from the Gorges du Verdon to Aix-en-Provence to St Tropez. If like me you are charmed and captivated by the way of life in this graceful region, then I hope we have the privilege of welcoming you back to continue “living the dream”!

“Very well equipped villa in the middle of vineyards”

We enjoyed the petanque court and the pool during our stay! Lots of shopping options in the area (by car), anc Cotignac is a charming village with its own winemaker (Mirabeau). Communication was perfect before the booking (thank you OVO Network) and after (thank you Pascale the manager and Marjo the owner).

— Olivier P. Jul 2020

“Exactly like the website said it would be!”

The site corresponded perfectly to the website's description. The calm and the beauty of the place are quite appreciable. Pascale the manager was very kind. This accommodation is characterized by the overall quality that is offered to holidaymakers (swimming pool, air conditioning, several fridges, outdoor facilities, peaceful surroundings). Overall, this villa offers excellent value for money. We are delighted to have stayed there for 1 week under the Provençal sun and near this beautiful village of COTIGNAC. The visit to the waterfall in Sillans-la-Cascade was also beautiful.

— Olivier C. Jul 2020

“Great stay”

We had a great week staying at Mas Le Chene with my family as we prepared for my daughter's wedding in Chateau de Robernier. Just a shame we couldn't stay longer! We loved the secluded location set in vineyards, the rustic charm, the air conditioning in the bedrooms, the swimming pool.We enjoyed the proximity to Cotignac and the beauty of the surrounding areas. Thanks to Estelle and her team for looking after us when we arrived and left.

— William M. Jul 2018

“A perfect holiday with friends”

A superb house ideal location, magnificent setting, all the equipment you need and more and an excellent welcome.

— Marie B. Jun 2018

“Great stay”

What a great location and great property! The setting is absolutely beautiful. The house is well stocked with all the essentials. We found the kitchen a bit of a challenge (we are foodies who love to cook wherever we go) but we made use of the outdoor cooking area and were able to create great meals none-the-less. Beds were super comfy and the new glassed in living room between the main house and guest quarters is a real gem. The managers were easy to deal with and very helpful. Would love to live in this area one day!

— Peter And Janice L. Sep 2017

“Great house, great location, great holiday!”

We had a great two weeks at Mas le Chene. The house is really well appointed and the location is really stunning. The kids loved the swings and we all loved the pool (especially in the heatwave that we endured(!) The manager were absolutely brilliant, and when we did need to call on them to help us out they were at the house within 15 minutes of calling! At the risk of there being no availability for us to stay in the future I can't recommend Mas le Chene enough - great location , great house, great service.

— Richard G. Jul 2017

“Lovely area and pleasant stay”

Thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable stay. We particularly liked the quiet nights sipping wine under a star studded sky and the lovely pool. The air conditioning was also a big plus. The village of Cotignac, Gorge du Verdon and the Riviera are made for great day trips.

— Merijn N. Jul 2017

“We'll come back!”

We had a lovely time staying at Mas le Chene. The property is magical: gorgeous views, a beautiful house with historic character, a refreshing pool, plenty of places to sit and eat in the shade, completely private (about half a mile off the road) and well supplied with anything anyone might possibly need. We'll never forget our evening walks and outdoor dinners, listening to the birds, going to the Cotignac market, and sitting in in front of the house to watch the stars and the moon rise. We would all love to come back some day.

— Tineke B. Jun 2017

“The best stay!”

We've just spent a splendid week in Mas le Chene. We Think we have rented many times in France over the years, so we do have some experience. But this was definitely the best ever. We'll be back some day to enjoy all the benefits of this lovely house again.
