About Mas le Chêne...
Picture your perfect villa in Provence, and there’s a good chance it will look like Mas le Chêne.
Built in warm stone, with shuttered windows, and surrounded by olive groves, vineyards and orchards, it’s the perfect place for a group of family or friends to spend a relaxing holiday.
Imagine sunny days around the pool, or outside of the main Summer season, relaxing in the wood-fired Scandinavian hot tub, before a simple lunch of local bread, cheese and wine on one of the many sunny terraces, or shady spot to be found dotted around the property.
The charming village of Cotignac is just 5km away, and has a good choice of restaurants, cafes and bars. There’s also a butcher, baker, fishmonger and a great market - everything you need to live like a local.
The property ...
Mas le Chêne sleeps up to 8 people in three en-suite bedrooms, one of which is in the annexe guest house.
The annexe and the Mas are linked by a stunning garden room with comfy armchairs, a fireplace, and two walls of windows, so that the views across the vineyards and gardens can be enjoyed all year round. Two of the bedrooms have double beds, one has an en suite shower room, the other an en suite bathroom. The third bedroom has an ensuite shower room and four single beds, so will particularly appeal to children, or two of the beds can be pushed together to form a double, making this a good family room.
The villa is decorated throughout in neutral tones, making for a relaxed ambience, no more so than in the open plan living area, with soft sofas, an elegant dining table and cosy wood-burning stove. The well-equipped kitchen has everything you need to cook up a delicious meal, and there's even a summer kitchen, equipped with a sink, fridge and barbecue oven with a hatch overlooking a terrace between the house and the pool. It's the perfect shaded spot to eat on warm summer evenings.
After dinner take a stroll around the extensive grounds, enjoy a game of petanque, find a quiet spot to read a book, or chat with friends - there is plenty of space for everyone to spread out.
About the area ...
With the beautiful and unspoilt village of Cotignac, known locally as Petit St Tropez, just a few minutes drive away, you'll find plenty to do without spending hours in the car.
The village has a typical provencal market on Tuesday mornings, and is a great place to pick up local produce - fresh fruit and veg, olives, honey, oil, truffles and cured meats - as well as lavender, ceramics and other souvenirs. Why not pick up everything you need for a picnic and head out for a walk?
Just 7km from Cotignac is the pretty village of Sillans la Cascade. From here it's a lovely walk on forest paths to the waterfall. Further afield there's windsurfing and sailing on Lac Sainte-Croix, rafting, canoeing and climbing in the Gorge du Verdun, and you'll then be able to head back to Mas le Chêne in time to cool off in the pool, perhaps before a gentle game of boules and a glass of local wine.
The pool is completely surrounded by an ironwork fence for safety, and an ironwork pergola to provide much-needed shade down by the pool.
Mas le Chêne can be reached easily in just over an hour from the airports at Marseille, Toulon or Nice. It’s a great base for exploring the villages of Provence, and the vineyards that surround them - don’t forget to taste the wine!
Further south there are the chic resorts of Saint-Tropez, Grimaud and Frejus. If you can stand the crowds, they are worth a day trip! Marseilles is less busy and certainly worth a visit - its role as a port and its proximity to Africa gives the city an international feel, particularly in the Panier shopping quarter. If you are there in June, try to get to the Fete du Panier - a lively two-day celebration of the city’s cultural diversity.
What next?
If a week or two at Mas Le Chene sounds like your idea of the perfect holiday, check our calendar for available weeks. If you need a little time, we can hold the dates for 24 hours. But don't wait any longer - this is always a very popular choice for OVO Network guests.

Why Cotignac?
The beautiful medieval town of Cotignac has long been a favourite with tourists.
Dominated by a limestone cliff studded with troglodyte caves, and surrounded by lavender fields and vineyards, you would be hard pushed to imagine a more typical Provencal destination.
With fabulous hiking and biking, wonderful markets, and summer open air theatre, there’s plenty to do, or relax and enjoy the wonderful food and prestigious wines of the area.

The OVO Network Review
“We just LOVE the Mas le Chene”
The three bedroom, three bathroom Mas le Chene property for 8 (max 6 adults) is spread over 192m2 of floor space. The original two bulidings are now linked by a wonderful garden room.
The property is constantly evolving as the owners improve the already beautiful interior and exterior spaces every year.
The property is set within its own vineyard, the accent really is on outdoor living! There are many different spaces out of doors, lots of different seating areas. Al fresco dining is always a pleasure, and entirely possible from May through until the end of October given the warm climate.
There is a walled petanque court so that guests can enjoy stay long tournaments, the fenced in (for security reasons) pool area is superb! We especially like setting up an outdoor office overlooking the vines, beneath the shade of the oak tree. The Scandinavian-style hot tub is perfect when the pool is not heated.
The living room and the bedrooms are comfortable, all bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms with wc's, children will really enjoy the dorm style bedroom in the only part of the building to be on the first floor. The air conditioning in the bedrooms is a welcome plus, as is the summer kitchen overlooking the garden between the house and the pool.
There are plenty of shady spots to be had out of doors, and plenty of parasols and pergolas to sit beneath.
This property is ideal for two families , groups of friends, or even couples, wanting to escape to a tranquil space in the countryside within a short drive of the beautiful town of Cotignac, which organises many activities and events across the year. There are many superb vineyards around the immediate area with our particular favourites being Mirabeau en Provence, and Carpe Diem.

From the owner
It was a case of "location, location, location" and we saw the potential of what we could turn it into.
“Our first visit to the Var was about 11 years ago. We were invited by our neighbours and friends from Holland.
We had heard already many enthusiastic stories about Cotignac, so we were really curious to go and visit our friends over there. They had already had their holiday home there for several years; a lovely townhouse overlooking the open air Theatre.
We fell immediatly in love with the village and surrounding area. While we were there we decided to have a look in the estate agents and, before we knew it, we had an appointment to view 3 houses! The first house was an immediate hit.
We were warned by friends, family and magazines never to fall in love with the first house you visit, but this was exactly what we did.
Why did we fall in love with the house? It was nothing spectacular, although it was “en pierres” (stone) it was scruffy and not well laid out. But it was a case of, “location, location, location” and we saw the potential of what we could turn it into.
So the next day we where committed into buying the house, and we have never regretted it. Later on we got in touch with a fantastic (lady) architect and she added all the smart ideas to turn this house into the nice asymmetric building which it is now, whilst at the same time preserving the original character of the house.
We also decided straight away that we needed a large pool designed in the style of a large fountain in the “Provence” style, both the house and pool are located amidst the vineyards, belonging to the house. So after a short period of transforming the house into what it is now, we can relax and enjoy it’s gentleness, it’s quiet location, and share long pleasurable dinners and conversations with our friends and family.
We love to have lunch or dinner with our friends on the large tables in front of the house enjoying the view of the vineyards and then later cool off in the pool, or play a game of boules on the court beyond the pool. The nicest moments come at the end of the afternoon when everybody is rosy and relaxed by the sun and swimming pool and we meet to chat and have a drink under the century old oak tree in front of the house, overlooking the vineyards.
When we are in Cotignac we love to stroll around the villages of the Provence Verte, and visit the market. There are many opportunities to go winetasting in and around Cotignac, but our faviourite “ Domaine”or vineyard is “Chateau Margui”, just outsite the village of Correns.
And of course a drive to famous St.Tropez in the spring and a wander around the “vide grenier” (Antique/ Flea markets) are always worthwile and enjoyable.
Are the children too small to have a quiet dinner in a restaurant or do you just prefer to stay on your own lovely terrace but not having the fuss of cooking your own meal than we can offer you the opportunity to have a cook at home! While sipping a cool glass of rose on the edge of your pool, PURE home cooking will provide you a lovely dinner. The table is attractively dressed for you, an excellent 3 or 4 course menu is served on your private terrace and of course they will leave your kitchen spotlessly clean.
On request, they can also cook for your children so your dinner can be quiet and undisturbed. For further information www.pure-homecooking.com.
